About Anton Yavny

Anton Yavny the Artist Sculptor who was Born in the Ukraine and moved to Success in Canada

Biography / CV of Anton Yavny

I was born in USSR behind a steel carton, isolated from the rest of the world in political, economical and cultural sense. But I canít complain about my childhood. It was happy and I received a Fine Art adduction for free. Four year program in so called Childrenís Fine Art School I managed to complete in three years. Loved it. Good school. Learned a lot. After High School, I had a luxury to study architecture in one of the most prestiges university in a country - in the city of Lviv, in western Ukraine.
In Soviet Union to teach Fine Art, Music or physical education, one had to have five years of university in specific field. So I became a Fine Art teacher after five years of study. Graduated with distinction. And again I loved everything, especially sculpting classes. After that I truly enjoyed three years of teaching kids beauty of Fine Art.
In 1990 I immigrated to Alberta, Canada and spent 10 years decorating two churches in a twelve century stile Byzantine iconography. Every square inch of interior walls was painted in traditional egg tempera and gilded in 24 karat pure gold.
In 1993 I successfully participated in Western Canada wood carving composition, where First Choice, Second Choice and Peoples Choice were given to my wood sculptures.
In 1994 I received Immigration Achievement Award in Fine Art, presented by Alberta Government.
From 2007 to 2011 I carved and built styrofoam props for privet homes, movies, museums, amusement parks and dental clinics in Canada but mostly to clients in USA. Some of the sculptures were 60 feet long and weighed 40 thousand pounds.
Since 2011 to present time I work as a production manager at VSI - the only company on planet producing high quality realistic veterinary simulators.

"The problem of contemporary sculpture and the garden is one which has rankled in my mind for years. It is usually resolved through a process of inversion-that is turning it into sculpture in the garden as against garden sculpture. By that I mean the sculptor takes over the garden as an open exhibition gallery, of which the focus is their creation, to which the world of nature merely provides the frame. The Idea that sculpture is a contributory element to an overall'mise en scene',in which, sometimes its role may be incedental rather than central, has been lost.In this we have seen the betrayall of the great tradition of garden sculpture, one which was unashamed at being decorative or delightful."
